Sources report Tampa Bay will seek to move Boyle if he is unsigned into Tuesday’s trade deadline rather than allow him to bolt as a free agent while getting nothing in return. If that is the case, the Blueshirts will be first in line to acquire the multi-dimensional power-play quarterback who will turn 32 this summer.

Watching the ineptness of the NYR power play, I can't argue with Glen Sather going after Dan Boyle. I've almost found myself pining for Sergei Zubov at times this season, which of course, resulted in my jinxing him into an injury back in January. Depending on whom the Rangers would offer in trade, this would be a smart move, as long as none of the following are included: Dubinsky, Callahan, Girardi, Dawes. There are of course a few untouchables (Drury, Gomez, et al), but pulling off a trade for Boyle would be a major acquisition for the foundering, in and out of a playoff spot, can't hold a 5 goal lead Rangers squad.

However, Boyle has missed a significant amount of time after a freak accident back in September '07. As the article mentions, he was 4th in scoring among all NHL defensemen last season; that total has very obviously dropped off a cliff this season. It remains to be seen if Boyle can regain the form of his previous 4 campaigns.

The Blueshirts have one other thing going for them as well, and that's the no-trade clause that Boyle holds. Though nothing is set in stone, it is believed New York is Boyle's preferred destination if he doesn't remain in Tampa.
And he's under 35. Go figure.
