Permanent LinkIt's offical. Shawn Green has retired. Thanks for a good 1 1/2 seasons Shawn, we hardly knew ye. At least we don't have to worry about Green having an All-Star season somewhere else, after having left New York.

2007 Green season: 446 ABs, .291, .352, .430, 10 HRs, 46 RBIs, 30 2Bs, .286 with RISP. Statistical oddity: Green had his 3rd best season in BA last season; with the 'Jays in '99 he hit .309. , in '01 with LA he hit .297. He hit 42 and 49 home-runs in those two seasons, respectively.

If Ryan Church can match or surpass those numbers, Mets fans will be satisfied. At least I will, especially if he can knock in more RBIs from the 7 or 8-hole. Church must hit lefties well or his ABs will be significantly reduced.

MLB.com has already moved Green to the historical player archives. That was quick.
