The Mets play the Cardinals in Jupiter at Roger Dean Stadium, starting at 1:05pm. John Maine will get the 2 inning start; Duaner Sanchez, Scott Schoeneweis, Joe Smith, Ruddy Lugo, Steven Register and Juan Padilla will follow. How many everyday players (starters) make the trip today?
Pre-game update (1:00pm): The always on top of things Matthew Cerrone at Metsblog has a few players listed from today's line-up, which includes Reyes, Wright, Delgado and Alou. Game will be broadcast via MLB Gameday Audio again. Not that I'm doing advertising for MLB, but at $14.95, its not a bad deal to have access to listen to over 2,000 games during the season, with no blackout restrictions. Note I said listen.
Update(1:30pm): No audio for today's game. The Mets.com link defaults to yesterday's games; once I switched it to today, there seems to be no link for audio. Well that sucks.
In somewhat related news, St. Louis Cardinals 1st baseman Scott Spiezio had an arrest warrant issued yesterday and won't be making the trip; the Cardinals have released him. Conversely, Tony La Russa wasn't immediately cut after his arrest and subsequent charge of a DWI in March of 2007. La Russa eventually pled guilty and was convicted of a misdemeanor DUI. Cardinals GM John Mozeliak on Spiezio's arrest: "To have this warrant put out there, it completely changes the landscape of what we're dealing with." Warrant, arrest, charges vs. conviction. Granted, Spiezio has additional, more serious charges of hit and run, aggravated assault, assault and battery, stemming from an incident at a friend's house immediately following the initial crash.
Typically, a few of the lesser charges would be dropped and Spiezio will most likely be convicted of one or two of the more serious ones. Spiezio hasn't been found guilty; there still exists a presumption of innocence in this country, as far as I can tell. In no way am I making any claims that Spiezio is either innocent or guilty; however, does the presumption of guilt regarding athletes bring back any memories?
Rhetorical question: Why was Spiezio cut and La Russa not?
Update: Spelled Scott Spiezio's last name wrong about 6 different times. Corrected. Ouch.
Cards sans Spiezio next up for Mets
